Location
Driving your own vehicle from your home you will collect service users from all over West Northumberland, Tynedale and Ponteland. The majority of visits are to hospitals or hospices in Newcastle such as the Freeman, RVI or Marie Curie. All mileage expenses will be reimbursed.
Commitment
Our transport service operates between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. There is no obligation to commit to a number of drives and the volume depends on the amount of clients requiring transport. A Volunteer Driver would typically be asked to undertake a journey once or possibly twice a week. The time this takes would depend on the length of the journey and the duration of the appointment.

We’re currently recruiting for Volunteer Drivers to continue assisting people to attend appoints and treatment for life limiting illnesses. Tynedale Hospice at Home Patient Transfer Service provides free transport for patients with a life limiting condition. As a Volunteer Driver you will pick up patients from their home and take them to and from their appointments.
It involves Volunteer Drivers using their own vehicle to pick up, transport and drop off clients from our catchment area at hospitals and hospices. Our transport service operates between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. There is no obligation to commit to a number of drives and the volume depends on the amount of clients requiring transport. A Volunteer Driver would typically be asked to undertake a journey once or possibly twice a week. The time this takes would depend on the length of the journey and the duration of the appointment.
We offer mileage expenses, a thorough induction and on-going support for our volunteers.

Practical Considerations
- You will need to have your own four door car and a valid driving licence - Your car must be safe, clean and fit for the transport of clients - You should be an experienced and competent driver Our volunteer drivers may engage in conversations surrounding the health of a client therefore confidentiality, empathy and a willingness to listen are key skills. You should enjoy meeting new people and work well independently and as part of the wider transport team.
